Firefox OS App Day @ JNU

On March 14,2014 we had another workshop at Jaipur National University,Jaipur  named “JNU_FIREFOX OS APP DAY IN A BOX” organised by Mozilla Community Rajasthan . The Technical lovers Irrespective of all Branches and Years have come to the workshop to know how to contribute to the World of Open Source and to know about the new Firefox Os  and how they can contribute  to world of Mozilla.

The workshop was attended by almost 200 students. The students were so eager for the workshop , even when the registration’s were closed on Spot registrations were high in numbers.

First Session:( 10:00 am to 12:00 pm):

 

In the First session Mr. Osho Parth  explained open source software and their use in current scenario. He also explained how we can customize open source software for our use and why they are beneficial for the society.He gave a brief introduction about FOSS and open source.

 Mr. Ram Dayal Vaishnav explained about the Communities Who is in the Mozilla community? How many contributors, supporters and users are there? How Do You Fit In The Community?

Mr. Tushar Arora  explained about the different products of Mozilla and told them the use of HTML5, CSS, Java Script in the latest Web technology.

 Mr. Meghraj Suthar explained about the different contributions one can do for the open source world and Mozilla  like localisation and various Contribution u can give in Open Source.In the lunch session after all the speakers already had their lunch, some students shared their doubts personally with the speakers about open source and  FOSS.

Second Session:( 13:00 pm to 17:00 pm):

App Dev:

 

This Session was totally based on App development. Mr. Ram Dayal Vaishnav & Mr. Osho Parth told the students about the new Firefox Os. The benefits of the new Firefox Os and its advantages over current smart phone market.

After the introduction about the Firefox OS Mr. Ram Dayal Vaishnav & Mr. Osho Parth also taught the students on how easy it is to make the apps for Firefox OS with the help of HTML, CSS ,JS.

The Students also tried some hands-on and made some wonderful apps.

Webmaker:

 

This Session was  based on Webmaker tools. Mr. Adit Bharadwaj & Mr. Lavish Aggarwal told the students about the  awesomeness of the WebMaker tools.

• X-Ray Goggles
• Thimble
• Popcorn 

 The Students were completely amazed with the tools and were very eager to use them.

We had a brief session on hands-on contribution like SUMO,AoA,etc… by Mr. Asharam Seervi.
He also told about the Firefox Student Ambassador program and whatcanidoformozilla.org. 
We also recruited many applicants for FSA and registered them for the program.

The Volunteers were very helpful. They helped the students during the whole session, while making apps and  during webmaker session.

There were total 5 apps  were made among those we ranked them according to the best and accordingly Mozilla goodies were given to them.

Last but not the least i would like to thank MCR, Mozilla , My HOD sir Mr. Vijay Dhaka and Sir Mr. Navneet Verma  and my college for guiding and helping through out the event.

MozDay @ City of Lakes – Udaipur

So, There again Mozilla Community Rajasthan organized another event with great success in Udaipur – City of Lakes :). Event started up at 02:00PM in Computer Science department of CTAE college.

On the spot registration of this event was done and more than 100 students participated in this event.

The session was started by Miss Charul by introducing all speakers. Speakers of these event was:

• Osho Parth
• Lavish Aggarwal
• Diepesh Monga

The first session was taken by Mr. Osho Parth. He gave a brief introduction about FOSS and open source, discussed differences between semi open source and open source, Firefox OS and also told the power of open source and mozilla as part of it.

Many students were keen to know a more about open source, they were really impressed by seeing power of open source, they were keen to know about mozilla. Students showed their great interest.

He also discussed about different layers of Firefox OS and working of each layers.

After that Diepesh Monga,  discussed about mozilla and its mission. He told them about some products and tools of mozilla like Thunderbird, Persona, Open Badge, Web Maker, Mozilla Lab, Fire Bug, etc.

Next Session of Application Development and How to customize GUI of Firefox OS in the way you want was taken by Mr. Lavish Aggarwal(Me).

He taught them how to develop app and submit it into market place by simply three steps i.e. Design, Build, and publish.

I also told them about HTML5 and importance of HTML5, CSS3 and JS.

MozFirst @ MITS

There again Mozilla Community Rajasthan organized a rocking event at one of the best colleges of Rajasthan (Mody Institute of Technology and Science – MITS). We started event at 10:00 AM by inaugurating MozillaMITS club continued by introductory session of Mozilla and Mozilla mission by Prachi Jain.

All newbies were interested in knowing about mozilla and its products. An idea about mozilla products was given like Thunderbird, Persona, Firebug, Webmaker etc. Next session was taken by Mr. Meghraj Suthar, he gave a brief introduction about open source. Actually students were not aware of open source. Today they realized that how their freedom is different than actual freedom.

He also told them about various open source communities and how to contribute in those communities? Students were quite happy to see what they can do in open source and how they can customize any open source product according to there need.

I think you can clearly see happiness on their face, they were really excited :). Open source lovers.

Next session was taken by Mr. Osho Parth, describing in depth about open source and making session pretty interesting by asking them simple questions and rewarding every answer with some cool goodies.

Then Mr. Raj Rohit took session, introducing students to Data Science that includes handling of data, machine learning, artificial intelligence, etc. continuing his session about  FOSS in data science.

Then it was time for App Development, Mr. Tushar Arora informed students about what is web, what are html pages and how app can be simply made only through three simple languages i.e. HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript.

Students were amazed by seeing that app development in Firefox OS is damn easy and they were planning to start HTML5 right from today so that they can publish a new app in marketplace that will be useful for users.

MozBoot @ Jodhpur

It was glad opportunity for all MCR member to organize a workshop in JIET campus, Jodhpur. This event was attended by 80+ students and speaker were:

This event was not possible without the great support of Mr. Meghraj Suthar and specially Mr. Ashish Seervi, MCR team was very thankfull to you 🙂

Event was started by Dean of JIET college delivering motivation speech and informing agenda of this workshop to students.

Then Raj Suthar informed students about Mozilla, Mozilla Mission, FSA program and ways of contributing in mozilla.

Students were very keen to know about mozilla.

then session was taken by Raj Rohit. He told about data science, artificial intelligence and spam filtering.

Session was continued by Osho Parth to make student aware about how their thought of freedom is different from actual freedom and informing them about open source and mozilla as part of it.

Now it was time to inform students about App Development. So, Lavish Aggarwal(me) and Trishul Goel told them What are apps? How they are made?

Then Lavish told them about languages used for making good apps, advantage of HTML5, CSS3 covering semantics for making good app.

So when apps are made they also must be uploaded so Trishul told them how app are uploaded and also told them about manifest.webapp file which is necessary for uploading app to market place.

Then session was taken by Osho informing students about architecture and different layers of Firefox OS.

Doubt Session:

Then times come to tell students about awesome webmaker tools of mozilla. So Osho and Trishul inform students about X-Ray Goggle, Thimble and Popcorn Maker and how to use it.

Session was ended by Hands on session in which students make simple web apps and used webmaker tools.

Then college staff honored all MCR members.

Overall workshop was really awesome and all students appreciated too

MozCafe@Jaipur

So, Finally was the day when  all FSA of Mozilla Community Rajasthan met. It was an awesome moment to meet with all ambassador’s.The event was started at 9:30AM in Mc-D at Gaurav Tower, Jaipur. We gather up there and everybody introduce themselves. Event was attended by 10 Peoples:

As their were some new members who wasn’t aware about what to do? and How to do? So the event was started by Meghraj Suthar, introducing about Firefox Student Ambassador Programs and all the activities that a FSA must do to start contributing.

Then we start Discussing about SUMO, that how to get involved in SUMO for helping other users of mozilla:

• Army Of Awesome
• Answer questions in Support Forum
• Write help articles
• Translate help to your Languages

We were glad to have Varun Kaushik with us in this meeting as he was in First position of Top Contributors of Last Week in Army of Awesome, we all Congratulate him for this great work of supporting Mozilla.

Then we plan and make list for all upcoming events and in which colleges in jaipur we can organize an event.

After deciding events and colleges we move ahead by discussing on Mozilla and its Mission, Firefox and Firefox OS. All were very excited in contributing to Firefox OS by making app for it. So all of them were informed about App of the Month Contest and started discussing how to take part in that contest.

Every one was also informed how to make app and procedure to submit app on store. The basic idea was given about the languages which will be used for developing apps.
